Opportunities (not finished)

Charlottes POV:

The air still had that crisp smell, the one that tends to linger after a heavy rainstorm that has cleansed the earth of all the bad in it. It was a faint reminder of all the time she had spent in Texas, the summer rainstorms she would dance in when she was a little girl, the scolding she would receive when she would track mud into the house, the first kiss she received, the first heartbreak she would feel, the tears of happiness and sorrow. Those were the memories that always flooded back into Charlottes mind whenever it rained in Manhattan. It was hard being away from home but she was chasing her dream of becoming an music producer and she couldn’t do that back in Huntsville.

Unable to sleep, Charlotte decided to wander around the city, to breath in the nightlife and smell the intoxicating aromas that existed within. Unaware of where her feet were taking her she looked up to see the vast treetops of central park. Central park was located in the heart of Manhattan and it was often a place that Charlotte drew inspiration from for her music projects. Without thinking she walked into the park and meandered the sidewalks for a little while before climbing up a little hill to sit upon and gaze at the few stars.

The grass was damp from the rainstorm but that never fazed Charlotte as she was too overwhelmed by the gorgeous sight of the stars up above her. Charlotte never heard the soft footsteps that approached her until she heard the voice. It was the voice of an angel who was not from around here due to his accent. “Mind if I join you? I’m only in the city for a bit and I never get to do this kind of thing when I’m home.” Charlotte didn’t even look up to see the mysterious stranger but simply said “no go ahead” He laid down next to her on the hill and was silent for awhile before he spoke again. “Your accent is not from New York, where are you from?” Now Charlotte normally would never talk to strangers but felt strangely at ease with this man, she quickly responded to him saying, “Yeah, I’m really from Texas, and judging from your accent you’re not from New York either. I’m guessing you’re from Great Britain?” With a soft chuckle the man said, “you are quite correct, I am from London.” Charlotte sighed and said with a bit of yearning, “I have always wanted to go to London, but the right opportunity has never come around.” The man smiled to himself and said, “maybe someday your opportunity will come in a package you least expected.” Charlotte laughed and responded back with “yeah, like some hot British fellow will ask me to come back to London with him and ask me to marry him and have his babies.” “Haha, maybe not that kind of opportunity but perhaps something else. Well I have to go but it has been truly wonderful gazing at the stars with you… uh I don’t believe I caught your name?” “ Oh! Where are my manners? I’m Charlotte. And you are?” “Ah well I am..” The man’s cell phone rang before he could say his name. “Charlotte I have to answer this, but it has been wonderful meeting you, and who knows maybe one day I’ll see you in London.” And with that the man stood up and was walking away whispering into his phone. Charlotte knew there was something about this man, a certain aura about him and without thinking she yelled out to the man “ You never said your name!” The man paused and turned toward her and quickly yelled out to her “It’s Chris” and then continued to walk away.

Charlotte continued to stare at the man as he walked away. He was somebody special she thought and she would probably never meet ever again. She didn’t even know what he looked like because of how dark it was. All she knew was his name and his voice. Depressed that she wouldn’t get to know Chris, she stood up and began to walk home to her apartment. The wind had begun to pick up and was blowing around the trash that people were too careless to throw away properly. As Charlotte neared her home one of those pieces of trash blew up into her face. It was a paper advertising Coldplay’s tour with a big picture of the band on it, Charlotte quickly dismissed the paper as trash and threw it back on the ground and continued walking home.

Chris’ POV

She was like no one he had ever meet before. She had rays of happiness that emerged from her when she spoke. He was mesmerized just by the sound of her voice. Charlotte. Charlotte was all he could think about as he walked back to the hotel. He knew it was best that he had not really gotten to know her, what with him living in London and her here in New York, yet he wished that that could change. Upon arriving back at the hotel he was greeted by his dear friend Jonny. Jonny was a constant in his life and to that he was grateful. Jonny called out to Chris saying, “Where did you wonder off to? I was worried that some stripper had captured you taken you back to her layer” Chris laughed and said “if only” Jonny grinned and pulled Chris into the elevator. “Aw mate! We are almost done here and soon we will be back in London.” Chris smiled and just nodded his head, but in his head Chris really just wanted to go back to the park and find Charlotte.

Charlottes POV

It had been two months since her encounter with Chris and he had finally drifted to the back of her mind. Charlotte was sitting in class doodling and humming Amsterdam, her favorite song, when her professor had begun to approach her. Quickly snapping out of it, Charlotte pretended to be working on her project. “Charlotte, every semester I choose one of my students who I think shows the most potential for a special ‘opportunity’. Typically the ‘opportunity’ in the past has been a summer internship in LA but this year the internship is in London.” Charlotte’s eye snapped up to her professors and began to grow extremely large. Had she heard him correctly? London? Charlotte’s mind was racing. “So Charlotte I want you to take this internship in London. Will you do it?” Charlotte said “Of course!” “Excellent, as soon as you finish this semester you will catch a plain to London and begin your internship.” Charlotte was beaming! She was going to London to do an internship!! To LONDON!

“Why are we doing this again?” “Because Guy, it opens up opportunities for young aspiring minds in the music field” said Will “Yeah, but couldn’t we have let U2 do it or Muse?” “GUY! They are doing it! It’s a bunch of bands and artists who agreed to allow interns to follow them around as they tour this summer” “Fine, but I’m making the chump do my laundry” and with that Guy marched up the stairs to the office of the beehive leaving Will, Chris, and Jonny down in the studio. The three of them broke into laughter at Guy’s reaction. “He stormed off like a little girl whose pig tail was pulled!” said Jonny. “Yeah well it seemed a bit err PMS’y’ to me” Snickered Will. Chris just sat back eating a bar of chocolate and grinning at the wise cracks his band mates were throwing around. “Hey Chris! When does the intern arrive?” asked Jonny. “Err. I think sometime around next week” “Perhaps this guy has some good ideas to help us finish up this album, so we can get to touring?” Chris shrugged his shoulders and simply replied saying “You never know.”

Charlottes POV

“Good Morning Continental Airline Passengers! We are beginning our decent into the London area so we ask that you put away all electronics you may have had out and stow all your personal belongings you have had out during the flight.” Charlotte awoke from her nap on the plane and looked out the window. She couldn’t see much besides clouds and the ocean but she knew that she would soon be landing in London!

After landing and going through customs Charlotte met up with other students in her Internship program, many were from the states and other European Countries. She made some small talk with a group of guys from Australia, while waiting to here where she would be interning.

“Good Morning! My name is Eloise and I am the director of your summer internship program! We are so excited to have you all here in the UK! Now listen up closely as we call out your name and whom you are interning for. Once you hear your name please come up here and collect your info packet and then proceed out these doors to your waiting cab. Eloise went through the list fairly quickly. “Roberts-Muse. Green- Keane. Johnson- U2.” Finally Eloise had finished the list and had called everyone’s name but Charlottes. Charlotte walked up to Eloise and said to her “ Excuse me Eloise, but you didn’t call my name.” Eloise looked at Charlotte and said “ Are you.. Miss. Brown?” “Yes! That’s me!” “Ah Miss. Brown, the band you are working for did not want me to announce their name in public, but now that everyone else has gone, you are working for Coldplay. They have personally sent a driver to pick you up. He is waiting outside the airport for you.” Charlotte couldn’t believe it, she was an intern for Coldplay! They were one of her favorite bands.” “Thank you Eloise!” Replied Charlotte. She gathered her bags and headed out the doors to see a black BMW parked in front of her with a man holding a sign with her last name “Brown” printed on it. Charlotte approached the man and said that she was “Brown”. He looked her up and down and then shook his head and proceeded to open the door for her. Charlotte stepped into the car and sat down. She was at first unaware of another passenger until she heard the man clear his voice and introduce himself as Will Champion. Charlotte nervously responded in introducing herself “ Hi, I’m Charlotte, I am a music major from New York City.” Will chuckled and said “are you sure your from New York? You have a southern drawl.” Charlotte blushed and responded saying, “You’re right, I’m really from Texas, but I go to University in New York.” “Ah, it all connects now. Well I have to tell you, for some reason we were expecting a man not a southern bell, but no worries!” Will said with a sincere smile. Charlotte returned the smile and turned to gaze out the window into the beauty London.

The car made several stops along the way to the studio. They picked up Jonny, and Guy who were also shocked that Charlotte was a girl and not a man but were never the less hospitable towards her. They even teased her about her accent saying it was worse than theirs and how they would need an interpreter. Charlotte felt at home with these men and had a feeling that her summer would be the best she had ever had.

Chris POV

Chris nervously paced the floor of the studio. The intern was due to arrive any second with the rest of the band. What would he be like? Would he be smart and ready to work? Would he be a jerk and an annoyance? Would he be better than me? Chris glanced up at the clock for the 18th time in a two-minuet period. Where are they? They should have been here already. Finally Chris heard the footsteps in the hall and the chatter of his dear friends. Jonny entered the room first carrying luggage and then Guy and Will. Finally Charlotte entered into the studio. Chris starred at the young girl in shock! He honestly thought it was going to be a guy but this was obviously not a guy!

“Chris this is Charlotte! She is our intern for the summer!” Will said. In Chris’ mind the name Charlotte rung a bell but he was not sure why but then she spoke. “Howdy Chris! I’m Charlotte.” It was then that Chris made the connection; it was the girl from central park!
